in teaching reading sessions, we had a session on teaching story telling. all my teaching experience, i haven't tried it before because story telling for me was just taking the book and read for my students which is really very boing for all. Chritina did something different and new to me. she gave us a short story with highlighted lines. she strated reading and each one of us participated with her in reading their lines in turns. it was very interesting. i loved very much. i will apply this way of story telling with younger students i used to teach in many courses. i think they will like too because they are part of the story and they will engaged in it.
litetrature circle is one of the most interesting ways of teaching reading. i uesd it before with my students but it has a different name "Reading Circle" and it has different roles. but for me, the way Christina told us how to apply it, was better than mine. she assinged different roles: we were six and each one has a role and we read different parts from the story and we exchanged all details together. i used it in assigning three or four roles and students read and discuss. the new roles are better because the bigger the number of students, the more interesting it becomes. the idea of engaging all students in reading isn't that easy. and they are reading for a purpose and not only for fun especially the role of the connector. it is important role since they are connecting what they have read into their real life situations. i'm really interseted in applying those new roles in my classes since my students are used to the reading circle activity but in different roles.
